it's me again, according to the bike dealer i really should be looking at parts when i buy a bike...?
i actually really prefer the trek 7.2fx (because of its look), but the bike dealer said if you compare the 2 bikes the diamondback century is a much better bike because of the parts!! something about using metal and not plastic like the trek....i feel like if i buy the trek, i'm buying it because of the look...
p.s. thanks for all your answers!
p.p.s. how do i get myself be comfortable riding the bike on the street. its nerve racking because of horrible drivers and since i'm a novice. last but not least, where do i go to find bike paths or routes?

do not buy that electic bike

theres only i good one ive seen so far it goes 60mph or somthing like that but its 2500-6 grand so its very expensive

with the money youve got you could get a good cheap crf50 and mod it up and use it as a pit bike,

beilive me youll be saving money and it will last longer, not just one ride

good luck

The link below shows the lowest priced "touring road bike" on the market with any real quality. A '70's Schwinn 12 speed would be terrible. The word "touring" itself implies riding long distances with extra weight on the bike, like loaded panniers.

If you just need a bike to ride around town, it would be OK if the price comes down. They are asking as much or more now for the bike than what it sold for brand new.

Should I even buy a new road bike if I'm at all worried about the cost?
My first bike is a used road bike which a friend advised me not to spend any more money on, or perhaps not even ride it any longer.

I bought it because I was cheap and didn't want to spend any money, but NO LONGER!!

(but I am still more comfortable with spending $600 than I am with spending $900, and don't even ask me about $1300 right now.)

So I am looking for a new bike. Such as this, which I test-rode at a local shop:

http://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/thebikes/road/ventura/11_venturasport_bk.html

for $625.

I posed a question here about buying this bike and one answerer replied:

"Never buy a bike and upgrade it, you will waste a lot of money."

Does that mean I should automatically go out and buy the $900 model (Ventura Comp) or the $1300 model (Ventura Race) just so I can get some slightly better components? I will probably ride this one for a while before I ever feel like upgrading components because it is basically better than any road bike I've ever ridden.

Which is not hard to do considering what I'm currently riding.

Plus the $600 model was in the store (not just viewing it online or from some mail-order site) and I was able to test-ride it and I pretty much liked it compared to what I am riding.

There are only reviews about the next model up, the Ventura Race http://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/thebikes/road/ventura/11_venturarace.html or about the Ventura Comp http://www.jamisbikes.com/usa/thebikes/road/ventura/11_venturacomp.html but nothing about the Ventura Sport specifically.

Will stop ranting now.
